The most decorated team in Rugby World Cup history. The Springboks have lifted the Webb Ellis Cup four times — more than any other nation — and are the current world champions. Playing in their iconic green and gold, South Africa bring physicality, tactical brilliance, and an unmatched ability to perform when it matters most.

Historie

South Africa's rugby history stretches back to 1891 and the Springboks have been one of the dominant forces in the global game ever since. Their first Rugby World Cup triumph in 1995 — on home soil, with Nelson Mandela presenting the trophy to captain François Pienaar in a Springbok jersey — is one of the most iconic moments in sporting history, transcending rugby to become a symbol of a nation's transformation. They won again in 2007 under John Smit, defeating England in the final in Paris.

After a difficult period, the Springboks rebuilt under Rassie Erasmus and Siya Kolisi — South Africa's first black captain — to win the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, defeating England in the final. They then became the first team to win back-to-back World Cups in the professional era, defeating New Zealand in the 2023 final in Paris. Under Kolisi's leadership, the Springboks have become a symbol of unity and excellence, and the most successful team in the history of the Rugby World Cup.

Historie a barvy stavebnice

Green and gold — the colours of the Springboks are among the most powerful in world sport. The dark green jersey with gold trim has been worn since the earliest days of South African rugby and carries the weight of a nation's history. The springbok emblem on the chest is one of the most recognised symbols in rugby, worn by players who understand the responsibility that comes with pulling on the green and gold.

Canterbury supply the Springboks' kits and the partnership has produced some of the most celebrated designs in international rugby. The home green jersey is the centrepiece — bold, distinctive, and instantly recognisable — while away kits have featured white and gold. Every Springbok kit carries the legacy of four World Cup triumphs and a fanbase that stretches from Cape Town to Johannesburg and across the rugby-playing world.

Siya kolisi
Siya Kolisi is one of the most significant figures in the history of South African sport. Appointed as the Springboks' first black captain in 2018, Kolisi led South Africa to Rugby World Cup glory in 2019 and again in 2023 — becoming the first captain to lift the Webb Ellis Cup twice. Born in poverty in Zwide township in Port Elizabeth, Kolisi's journey to the pinnacle of world rugby is one of sport's great stories. As a flanker he is a ferocious competitor with outstanding leadership qualities, but it is what he represents — a unified, post-apartheid South Africa — that makes him truly extraordinary. When Kolisi lifted the World Cup in Paris in 2023, it was a moment that went far beyond rugby.
