Historie
The Melbourne Storm were founded in 1998 as the NRL's expansion into Victoria, giving Australia's second-largest city its first top-flight rugby league club. Under coach Craig Bellamy — who would go on to become the most successful coach in NRL history — the Storm won the premiership in just their second season in 1999, an extraordinary achievement for a new club. They went on to build the most consistent dynasty in the modern NRL, reaching the grand final on nine occasions and winning the title in 1999, 2009, 2012, and 2017.
The Storm's success has been built on a culture of discipline, preparation, and development that has produced some of the greatest players in NRL history — Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, and Cameron Munster among them. The club was controversially stripped of two premierships (2007 and 2009) due to salary cap breaches in 2010, though the 2009 title was later reinstated. Despite the controversy, the Storm's on-field excellence has never been in doubt, and they remain the benchmark for professional standards in the NRL.
